Message from the President

Rotary Club of Butabika Royals | Rotary Year 2025–2026

Theme: Unite for Good

It is with immense gratitude and humility that I begin my service as the 5th President of the Rotary Club of Butabika Royals. As I step into this role, I am guided by a deep belief in service, compassion, and faith. One of my favourite scriptures, Proverbs 3:5-6, reminds me to trust in the Lord wholeheartedly—and I carry this promise into my presidency, confident that our path will be directed with wisdom and purpose.

I extend heartfelt appreciation to all those who have mentored and supported me: District Governor GK, our Past Assistant Governors, the District Leadership, and our very own Charter Members. A special thank you to my immediate predecessor, President Jonathan Adengo, for his exceptional leadership and the legacy he leaves of vibrancy, growth, and integrity in our club.

Vision for the Rotary Year

Our focus for 2025–2026 is built on three strategic pillars:

1. Strengthening Our Club

o Promoting active engagement, mentorship, and inclusion.

2. Deepening Community Impact

o Implementing sustainable projects that meet critical needs in areas such as mental health, youth empowerment, and education.

3. Telling Our Story

o Amplifying our voice and visibility through powerful storytelling, impactful partnerships, and enhanced public engagement.

Signature Projects for the Year

• ✅ Finalizing Global Grant qualification (with RC Portbell & RC Mbale Metro) for the Maternal & Child Health Project in Amaler Health Center, Nakapiripirit District.

• ✅ Launching of the Digital Community Center at Butabika National Referral Hospital.

• ✅ Mobilizing USD 1,000 in support of the “Empowering Families, Growing Futures” initiative for maternal and infant care in East Africa.

• ✅ Executing a Mental Health & Gender Violence Awareness Clinic for local leaders and police in Kampala’s Nakawa Division.

• ✅ Participating in the Annual Mental Health Clinic alongside other Rotary clubs.

• ✅ Launching a Tree Planting Project linked to vulnerable youth education in partnership with the Kuteesa Foundation.

• ✅ Initiating a new Global Grant Application in partnership with Butabika National Referral Hospital to support mothers and youth in mental health recovery.

These initiatives demonstrate our club’s ongoing commitment to delivering sustainable and relevant service in line with Rotary’s areas of focus.

To my fellow Rotarians—thank you for the trust you have placed in me. I draw strength and inspiration from your dedication, energy, and compassion. Together, we form the heartbeat of this club, and together we will do even more.

Let us embrace this year’s theme, "Unite for Good," with courage and purpose. The challenges in our communities are real, but so is our power to respond. Let’s lead with compassion, act with courage, and tell the story of Rotary with pride.

Rotary is more than a club—it’s a movement—a way of life. A collective decision to put Service Above Self, and in doing so, create ripples of hope and transformation.

On Tuesday 29th October we were honored by an official visit from the District Governor Anne Nkutu. It was a good moment and a lot was learned and shared, we managed to welcome a total of 14 new members to the club who were fully inducted. we are grateful for the clubs, friends and guests that stood with us.

How to Join

To become a member:

Attend Our Meetings: Join us at one of our regular meetings to meet our members and learn more about the club’s activities and values.

Engage in Service: Participate in one of our ongoing projects or service activities to experience firsthand the impact we’re making in the community.

Submit Your Application: After getting to know our members and our work, you can submit an application for membership, which will be reviewed by our board.

Orientation and Induction: New members undergo an orientation process to familiarize themselves with Rotary’s values and the club’s goals. Afterward, a formal induction ceremony is held to welcome you into the Rotary family.

Our projects are designed to create sustainable change, aligning with Rotary’s areas of focus while addressing pressing local needs. About Rotary Club of Butabika Royals

The Rotary Club of Butabika Royals was chartered on 26th February 2021. The Club was sponsored by Rotary Club of Muyenga under District 9214 and Rotary Club of PortBell under District 9213.

Butabika Royals is referred to as a Covid Club because it was initiated during the pandemic area. It was chartered with 27 members, who were mainly from the Royal Palms Estate located in Butabika Village. Accordingly, the Club originally used to meet in Butabika Village. However, in a bid to expand the membership and accommodate new members beyond Butabika, we shifted our fellowship venue to Silver Springs Hotel, Bugolobi meeting every Tuesday from 6.30pm – 7.30pm.

The Club is cognizant that Uganda is ranked among the top 6 countries in Africa with 19.86 % adults with mental illness. By 2022, it was estimated that 35% of Ugandans suffer from mental illness and 15% of Ugandans require treatment. Uganda has been singled out as one of the most high-risk states where thousands of young people are mentally ill due, to drug and substance abuse incidents from the ages of 12-35 years (The UN World Drugs Report 2019). The situation is worrying.

Therefore, it is our conviction that our Club can contribute to the kind of world we want to live in: one where we all feel supported as part of a community and where we help expand access to to quality mental health care that is safe, effective, timely, efficient, equitable and people centered. We see ourselves as significant stakeholders who participate in the following

Erasing the stigma associated with mental illness and caring about emotional wellbeing.Raising awareness about mental health challenges focusing on symptoms and cause.Working to improve access to mental health services and quality of occupation theraphy.

Accordingly, we have established an effective partnership with Butabika National Referral Hospital on Mental Health (BNRH-MH) to pursue our vision and mission. We are proud of the engagement which has enabled us to contribute to addressing the “worrying situation”. Our partnership is elaborated in Strategic Plan 2022- 2027.

As part of our strategic growth plan, we mothered the Rotaract Club of Butabika Royals, who proudly identify themselves as the ‘mothers of mental health’.

As a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Club, we welcome all individuals and do not practice any form of segregation. Our club is known for its large heart and inclusive spirit.

Our Club was registered as a company limited by guarantee, BRN 80020003847009 by the Uganda Registration Services Bureau(URSB) under under section 18(3) of the Companies Act No. 1 of 2012 .

Our club draws on the expertise of professionals in various fields.

As part of the global Rotary movement, Rotary Club of Butabika Royals is dedicated to creating lasting change both locally and internationally. Our members are passionate about serving vulnerable communities, fostering partnerships, and delivering impactful programs that enhance the well-being of individuals and society.
